The story recounts the early life of Genghis Khan who was a slave before going on to conquer half the world including Russia in 1206. Based on leading scholarly accounts, MONGOL delves into the dramatic and harrowing early years of the ruler who was born as Temudgin in 1162. As it follows Temudgin from his perilous childhood to the battle that sealed his destiny, the film paints a multidimensional portrait of the future conqueror, revealing him not as the evil brute of hoary stereotype, but as an inspiring, fearless and visionary leader.
Starring Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano (ICHI THE KILLER, A TASTE OF TEA) as the titular and iconic Khan, and directed by Sergei Bodrov (NOMAD, BEAR'S KISS), this epic adventure should only be seen on the big screen. Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at this year's Academy Awards.
